BHP Billiton

BHP Billiton is among the world’s largest producers of major commodities, including iron ore, aluminium, coal and copper.

Cell-media has an ongoing relationship with BHP Billiton Iron Ore and has produced various induction packages for use in their Learning Management System and Contractor Learner Portal.

The Mines Operations induction takes users on a simulated tour of a typical BHP Billiton Iron Ore mining operation. The induction provides users with the essential knowledge needed to work safely at the mine sites. The induction is structured as a presentation by two on-screen presenters. This is achieved through the use of ‘green screen’ technology and includes a combination of still photography, video, and 2-D and 3-D graphics. Assessment breaks are also provided throughout the induction.

The induction is hosted on BHP Billiton’s Contractor Learning Portal and can also be presented in a facilitated environment by a BHP Billiton trainer.

RIo Tinto

Rio Tinto is a leading mining and resources company and is the second largest iron ore producer in the world.

Cell-media has worked with Rio Tinto on a number of projects, including their Contractor Management Framework (CMF) Training. The CMF is a two-part training system, with an introductory single-user induction to CMF, followed by a two-day facilitator-led training session.

The single-user induction is contained within Rio Tinto’s Learning Management System, which allows Rio Tinto’s training department to record users’ results.

The facilitator-led training is supported by a Cell-media-produced interactive presentation, which facilitators can use at their own pace, projected on a large screen in front of an audience.

Both inductions use a combination of photographs, videos, 2-D and 3-D graphics and interactive assessments.

Glencore

Glencore’s coal mining operations in Queensland are just one part of Glencore’s worldwide operations. Glencore is one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of commodities, supplying the globe with natural resources and their related products. The company has over 150 mines sites, with operations in over 50 countries.

Cell-media hosts Glencore’s Training Record Management System for its Queensland operations. The system contains a series of site-specific inductions as well as a vast suite of role-specific Standard Operating Procedures and assessments.

The setup allows employees, contractors and visitors to Glencore’s coal sites to complete their relevant site-access inductions prior to arriving at site, saving time, effort and money.

Users must upload a photograph and other mandatory documentation, including Standard 11 Generic Inductions, Coal Board medicals and 5 Panel drug tests, all requiring approval prior to site access being granted.

Prior to completing a site-specific induction, all users must complete Glencore’s Overview module, containing general information about Glencore’s business strategy, values and Code of Conduct and safety processes. The module is composed of photographs, 2-D and 3-D graphics, on-screen information and interactive assessment breaks.

Newmont

With operations in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, North America and South America, Newmont Mining Corporation is one of the world’s largest gold producers.

Cell-media has produced a range of online safety and document management learning material for the company’s Asia-Pacific operation.

This includes an application for haul truck driver training at the Boddington operation which is designed for easy use on computer tablets (such as iPads).

The application provides a flexible learning environment by providing training (through use of video) and assessment (which can be completed out on the field) to help determine competence with various working methods. The application also allows observers to actively track the progress of candidates as they complete their training.

GBF

GBF Underground Mining Company is a WA-owned and operated private underground mining contractor, providing a range of specialist services to the mining and industrial sectors. The company has a strong presence in the Western Australian goldfields, with offices in Perth, Kalgoorlie and Darwin.

Cell-media worked with GBF to create the company’s online HR portal and general induction. The induction is presented in a format which is different to more traditional inductions. Contained on GBF’s own website, using HTML, it allows its users to view the material on a tablet or smartphone.

Each page of the induction loads with a full-screen video, providing an overview of the relevant content. Users are also provided with a combination of images, text, interactive material and assessments.

The content is locked down and users can only proceed through each section once all mandatory materials and assessments have been completed.

The content is ‘bookmarked’, allowing users to log in and out of the induction as they please and continue training from where they left off. Once the induction has been completed, a user’s results are automatically recorded in GBF’s online HR portal.
